Gifts of Autumn

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns." ~George Eliot

Welcome fall!  Welcome season of change, of settling, of deep sighing of letting go.  This is the affirmation you’ve been looking for all year – ‘You’ve done well.  Time to rest and let be.’  Drink this message in over a hot cup of coffee or tea while watching the leaves fall slowly, rhythmically to the ground.  This is your time.

I relish this season so much.  Throughout the year, thinking of fall gives me delightful shivers of expectation and longing.  I think this says a lot about me, and those who love the season.  We are in need of the message that it’s ok to let go, it’s ok to rest, it’s time to do what you’ve been waiting to do all year – rest and present-ness.  Fall also feels like a new year for me, a fresh start.  The high energy of summer wanes and now is the time to get back to work, to the things my heart dreams of and wants to create, free from distractions.  The world is slowing down.  What a gift!

So dear friends, may this time also be a gift for you.  I know for many, it is difficult to enter into this season after the highs of summer.  It may seem like the dreary death of upbeat summer, or here in Canada, a step closer to the long, cold winter ahead.  Let’s take it one step at a time, shall we?  Let’s see what this new season can offer, namely, ‘It is enough.’
